Many teeth are damaged after the erosion of their layers gradually as a result of severe caries, in cases where caries penetrates the outer layers of the tooth and reaches the pulp that comprises nerves and blood vessels.
In this context, Dr Ahmad Jbara elucidated that the adequate therapy for these cases is root canal which is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth instead of removing it.
Dr Jbara added that the root canal treatment is designed to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal, prevent reinfection of the tooth and save the natural tooth. When one undergoes a root canal, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed.
Dr Jbara pointed out that repeated medical therapies for the same tooth, along with decay and cracked teeth are the fundamental incentives that lead patients to have root canal treatment.
Dr Jbara added that a root canal is considered a restorative procedure. Most people who undergo the procedure can enjoy positive results for the rest of their lives. Still, how long results last depends on the way you take care of your teeth. Just as the rest of your teeth depend on good oral hygiene habits, your restored tooth requires regular brushing and flossing as well.
